A Better Job for Mama
$25-$800
Mama Melon is working on her IT certificate as a weekend student, traveling over 16 hours round trip each weekend to get to campus for her classes. Her former job as a hotelier at the Bwindi Hospital Guesthouse was just enough to scrape by, provided the tourists were generous with their tips. Her supervisor there disliked her attending school on the weekends and created such a hostile environment that she was forced to leave the position, despite hospital management encouraging her to stay. Her salary in this position was $600/year, the same amount as her yearly tuition for the IT program. There is no possible means of improving her life situation without outside assistance.
She is actively looking for a new hotelier position to meet her basic needs of housing, food, and tuition for her children (all schools in Uganda charge tuition - there is no free education) until she can complete her degree in December 2026. An IT position will be waiting for her at the hospital.
It has been an honor to assist Melon with her university tuition fees and what transport fees I can. Her commitment to improve the lives of her children is commendable.
